Youth Development Worker

Duties:

This is a permanent position with benefits, after successful probationary period. The Youth worker duties will be shared between the Cape Mudge and Quinsam Communities. The Youth development worker is responsible for planning, implementing, budgeting and reporting activities for youth. The youth development worker is expected to meet educational and cultural targets. The program elements are primarily directed by needs assessments conducted by the Youth Worker. This program is a budget item, and is reviewed annually by the Finance Committee and is subject to available funds. There is a three-month probationary period, and subsequent employee evaluation. The starting rate of pay at $19 an hour is dependent on experience and qualifications., and reports directly to the Social Development Administrator

QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to applicants with the following qualifications: • Grade 12 • Post secondary education in a related field: i.e. child development, human services or sociology, kinesiology. • ECE experience, teacher’s aid or education assistant experience in a formal setting is a definite asset. • Experience working with youth in a recreational/educational setting is an asset. • Demonstrate being active and physically fit. • Skilled in program/activity planning, organizing, time management, budgeting, report writing. Required elements: • Criminal record check required. • Must provide a driver’s abstract. • A class 4 Driver’s license or be willing to get one within 3 months Necessary skills include: • Food preparation (Food Safe), activity development, skills development, culture, crafts, sports, recreation, group educational workshops, resource development. • Sensitivity to gender and age appropriate activities is needed. • Training in communications, interpersonal relationships, conflict resolution and or problem solving. PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES: Individuals who demonstrate these qualities will do well in this position. • Have patience and tact in high stress situations. • Have experience setting limits, and providing guidance to youth/families. • Individuals with a proven ability to multi task and organize there time efficiently. • Model appropriate behavior and healthy choices at all times. • Have a high level of energy with an affinity for children and adolescents. • Be able to work independently, with minimum supervision. • You must be able to plan large activities and secure the necessary resources, volunteers and help that you need within the youth group, families and community. • A keen perspective on community development and stewardship is a benefit. • Have a great respect for privacy and confidentiality. • Be a team player with a positive perspective.
